Volunteer Role Descriptions

Courtesy Corp: 

  • Assist with the conference set up and tear down

  • Provide assistance to various technical committees and conference committees or their members

  • Greet, direct, and provide general information to conference attendees

  • Assist with general operations before, during, or after the conference competition.

DIRECT Teachers:

  • This option only applies to those who are completing the DIRECT In-Service Training through the South Carolina Department of Education.

Technical Committee:

There will be multiple Technical Committees. Each Committee will be assigned competitions that they will be responsible for the following:

  • Find technical chairs for competitions under your committee​

  • Provide the following to the State Director and technical chairs:

    • Review the technical standards and provide mandatory updates that technical chairs need to follow​

    • Basic room/ space set up (tables, chairs, drops, internet access, etc.) & equipment needs. (This can be expanded by technical chair as needed.)

    • Review and/or create basic rules and regulations for fairness in the competition.

    • Create basic competition orientation and debrief standards for technical chairs.

    • Provide tips and guidance measures for technical chairs/ judges.

    • Review national scoring rubrics for competitions and adjust to meet state standards, review with technical chair and make any immediate changes as needed.

Event Judge:

  • Assist with setting up, facilitating, and judging a particular competition. Will report to competition technical chair.
